At British Log Cabins the quality of our product, attention to detail and knowledge of log building is second to none. We provide traditional log cabins for any use from a woodland shelter to a log home. We offer a completely bespoke design and build service to help you create your dream cabin.
A handcrafted cabin is a log cabin built in the traditional fashion. At British Log Cabins we pride ourselves on our unique, specialist artisan skills in producing beautiful buildings by hand from the raw material.
The handcrafted log cabin is not just a building, it’s a culture, a natural way of living and a statement. The contrast of massive, natural logs with precision joinery is awe inspiring. The tactile surface of the logs and warmth that they provide is homely and cosy. The kind of buildings that fairy tales are made of, luxurious on the inside and natural on the outside.
Current ProjectLocated in Llangedwyn with views South over the rolling Welsh hills this project has been a long time coming. The slate roof on this cabin has just been finished. Will be completed with underfloor heating, an internal mezzanine level and spiral log staircase. Gable windows look straight down the valley. This is a project to watch.
Woodland CabinsThere is no building more perfectly matched to a woodland setting than a handcrafted log cabin! Blending in with the natural environment whilst offering complete sanctuary from the elements.
A cabin in your woodland is an excellent way to add value not only commercially but also in function.
No standard plans, no middlemen. We work directly with our customers to create their unique handcrafted log home, our specifications and designs are matched to your lifestyle, budget, and site. Log homes can be built to any size, shape and style from traditional frontier designs to contemporary combinations of timber, glass and stonework.
Rounded timberUsing our log lathe we can turn uniform round timbers from 160mm – 450mm in diameter and up to 9.1m in length. The quality of finish of our rounded timber is very high.
Welcome to British Log Cabins
A log home daydream
Why not chase your dreams of sustainable log home living?
It has been a long, hard winter. Radiators turned right up, electric blankets on! Are things going to change in the future? Are we going to get milder, more Mediterranean style winters?
...Well, we don’t know, but we do know that you can make the depths of winter more enjoyable living in a log home. (and reduce your fuel costs)
Cosy up in front of the log burner, surrounded by natures best building material and stick Emmerdale on the flat screen telly hung on the wall.
Fancy a cup of tea? Fear not. With underfloor heating as our preferred convection method you won't even need your slippers on to make that dash from the lounge to the kitchen.
The log home industry in the UK is a small place. We are trying to make it bigger one daydream at a time.
We have an in house design service. The main benefit of this is that the same team that designs your log cabin also writes the specification for materials and finishes and does detailed drawings for the construction team to work from. This allows a smooth workflow from pencil to chainsaw. Our drafting and design services are competitively and fairly priced.
All of our timber comes from sustainable sources, is grown in managed woodlands around the UK and our suppliers are all FSC certified. The trees that we use in our handcrafted log cabins are always hand felled to minimise the damage to the timber. The main species that we build with are Western Red Cedar and Douglas Fir. We also occasionally use Larch. Species selection will depend on the design of the cabin and the location.
Cedar is renowned for being the most naturally durable softwood and is generally our first choice it can also produce a lovely fluted effect at the butt end which is excellent for creating unique features in a building. Douglas Fir we use for longer spans as it is stronger and grows with less taper from top to butt.
At the heart of BLC is Mart and Dan and their passion for log building. In particular their love of building handcrafted log cabins.
Martyn has been building handcrafted log cabins for over 10 years now, with his beginnings in forestry and land management.
Dan’s background is in carpentry, general building and business now having 6 years log cabin building experience.
Every project at British Log Cabins is treated with fresh eyes, always looking for better and more innovative approaches to the work processes and design of the cabins and homes constructed.
Any contract with British Log Cabins is backed up with honesty and hard work. There is no such thing as a disappointed customer. There are no big margins or salesmen and no middlemen. The company is what it is because of an absolute passion for log building.
